GRANADA, A SPANISH STYLE CITY IN NICARAGUA

Granada was established very near an indigenous village, Xalteva, and it is the oldest colonial city in the continent.
Granada city is located along the border coast of ‘Cocibolca’ Lake (Nicaragua Lake), with hundreds of tiny islets inside. The most surprising for us was Monkey island. Nobody can feel their skin or hair because they are really fast jumping from a tree to another, never towards the water or boats. They seem to own this land, at least they believe that.
When you walk in Granada, you can see Mombacho volcano if you look upwards as if trying to touch the sky. Believe me, it is very close. However, you must enjoy Granada’s wonderful streets, squares, civil and religious buildings.
Walking along Granada streets we found Casa Grande Hotel in Xalteva Street (www.casagrande-nic.com). Mr Octavio restored this great building and nowadays it is wonderful, perfect. Teresa and  Liider Enrique made us feel members of a very good Nic family, so much that we spent four days in this city.
Poet and priest Ernesto Cardenal founded Casa de los tres mundos (www.c3mundos.org). Everybody can enter this old place to enjoy good paintings, pictures and meet young artists, as Memo Barraza (young painter and leader of Granada hard rock group, Augurio).
Eventually it started to rain as fine as Compostela’s pure water and we moved to Omete island…
